I hope you were able to catch my live “TwitterView” with fitness expert Craig Ballantyne.  It was Craig’s first ever interview using Twitter – and it was awesome!  Craig revealed some of his best fitness and nutrition secrets in short and to-the-point posts.

For those of you that don’t know, a “TwitterView” is simply an interview conducted via  Twitter.  Twitter is the wildly popular social media/micro-blogging site everybody is talking about.  Heck, even  Oprah is on Twitter.

I use Twitter every day to keep track of friends, business contacts and even celebrities.  I also try to post one interesting or useful “Tweet” (Twitter’s version of a blog post or status update limited to 140 characters or less) every hour.  Typically my Tweets are health and fitness-related, but I also include personal updates, jokes, inspirational quotes, etc.

And if you missed the TwitterView with Craig, here is a complete transcript for you.  I hope you enjoy it.

Pete:  @craigballantyne Hi Craig! Are you ready to expose your best fitness & nutrition secrets on your first ever “TwitterView”?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute sure

Pete:  @craigballantyne Awesome! These 1st questions are from several of my readers that REALLY like your pictures on the TT site.

@craigballantyne Q1: How tall are you? How much do you weigh? What is your waist size? Married or single? LOL

Craig:  @HealthyMinute 5 foot 8, 183, and i think 32 but i always wear a 33.

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q2: I want to workout at home. Can I still get great results without going to the gym?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute absolutely. you can train super-hard at home…even with only your own bodyweight.

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q3: I sure don’t want to spend a bunch of money on equipment. Are bodyweight exercises really effective?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute Yes, they will help you lose fat and sculpt your body. Most folks will get a lot of results from bodyweight exercises.

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q4: How long should a “typical” workout last?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute depends on what you mean-typical for what? for fat loss, you’ll need about 15-45 minutes, depending on how often you workout

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q5: If you could only do one exercise each for the upper-body, lower-body & mid-section, what would they be?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute pullups. squats. stability ball rollouts.

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q6: This one is from my wife. What is the best alternative to doing squats if you have really bad knees?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute for beginner: 1-leg lying hip extensions. for advanced, we’d play around with stepups, split squats, etc. to see what works

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q7: This one is from my Mom. What is the best way for women to get rid of the dreaded “muffin top” mid-section?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute diet and exercise. just like anything else. cut out sugar. exercise consistently. Repeat

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q8: Which is more important for fat-loss…diet or exercise?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute diet

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q9: What are your Top 3 most effective nutrition tips for fat-loss?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute 1) eliminate added sugar; 2) eat more fruits and vegetables; 3) replace processed carbohydrates with raw nuts

Pete:  @craigballantyne Q10: Last question. What is the single most important piece of advice you can give if I want 2 burn fat & look good?

Craig:  @HealthyMinute 1) Be consistent. 2) exercise harder, not longer. focus on resistance training and interval training, not long slow cardio

Pete:  @craigballantyne WOW! Thanks so much for your time & for the awesome information! Your 1st TwitterView was fantastic!

Fantastic interview. Although I am a bit disappointed, Craig never did answer the married or single question:) These are great tips. I recently cut out sugar…no soda or candy. Within 2 weeks I have noticed a huge difference. (I haven’t even started my routine workouts yet). Several people at work actually have said something to me. By just cutting sugar! Now the workout begins, ugh. But with these great tips I am more encouraged.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important. – William B. Doyle,
